Saint Anthony

Abstract

This wood sculpture of Saint Anthony the Abbot was originally located in the church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Laurino, and is now in the Diocesan Museum of Lucania. It was created between the 16th and 17th centuries. The figure holds a book in his left hand, an attribute commonly associated with the saint. His right hand is positioned on his breast. Saint Anthony is adorned in his traditional habit but is decorated in floral patterns made of gold. The sculpture is in good condition except for the paint that has chipped off his mantle.
