Abstract
This painted wood sculpture of Saint John the Baptist was originally located in the church of San Michele Arcangelo in Acquavella. Today, it is displayed in the Museo Diocesano of Lucania. A camel-skin garment drapes over his body and a mantle, decorated with red and gold motifs. The words “Behold the lamb of God” are written across a ribbon hanging loosely from his left shoulder. The sculpture is in good condition except the figure’s left toe missing. The outer edges of his book are also damaged.
