Abstract

The ongoing conflict in Syria has raised many questions about the nature of Canada's international involvement. As this set of 8 lessons in Canadian history intends to demonstrate, this is not the first time that Canadians have questioned their role in foreign affairs. Working through Canada's peacekeeping history, students will grapple with the question, "Is Canada a Peacekeeping Nation?" Students will a) learn how Canada's peacekeeping role has evolved over time in response to changing perceptions, advancing technology, and varying international situations b) recognize that whether or not you see Canada as a peacekeeping nation is very much bound to the perspective that you take c) identify significant moments in Canada's peacekeeping history, such as the Rwandan Genocide and the Suez Crisis.
