Abstract
Suspended above the Schola Cantorum (Choir) in Santa Maria in Cosmedin in Rome is a polychrome wooden crucifix of unknown origin and date, possibly dating to the eighteenth century, on account of the style of the loincloth. The crucifix’s polychromy—potentially from a more recent application of paint—remains remarkably well preserved. Bright red drops of blood are vividly depicted on Christ’s chest, hands, feet, and forehead.
