Abstract
The Tomb of Francesco Carafa is in a particularly prestigious location, in the Cappellone of San Domenico in Naples, originally right next to the miraculous painted crucifix that is thought by believers to have spoken to St. Thomas Aquinas. (Now a copy of the miraculous painting is in this chapel.) Also in this chapel is the very similar tomb of Francesco's brother, Diomede Carafa. Here, the lamb of God stands atop the tomb. In the lunette, Francesco is presented to the Madonna and Child. Francesco's effigy lies on his sarcophagus, and his coat of arms are painted below, above a stone bench built into the tomb. Virtues and St. Peter are in niches on either side. Some paint and gilding survives on the lavish tomb. Photograph(s) licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License
