Abstract

This glazed terracotta altarpiece (in San Michele Arcangelo, Foiano della Chiana) is a smaller version of Andrea della Robbia's altarpiece of the same subject in La Verna, mimicking closely the arrangement of the figures, poses, landscape, and double frame. The predella is different, containing scenes of the Annunciation, Nativity, and Circumcision in low relief, framed by flat glazed fruit trees and a flat glazed portrait of the patron kneeling.
