Madonna and Child with Saints Sebastian and Julian

Abstract

This altarpiece of glazed terracotta shows the Madonna and Child enthroned and surrounded by Saints Sebastian and Julian. The predella contains scenes of St. Julian killing his parents, the Stigmatization of St. Francis, and the Nativity. The work was made for San Francesco in Sargiano, possibly for the chapel of Giuliano Bracci (which would explain the choice of St. Julian) and can be found today in the Museo Nazionale d'Arte Medievale e Moderna, Arezzo.
