Abstract

People who take on the role of copyright officer or have that role assigned to them are faced with the problem of applying copyright law in practical, everyday educational settings, often without the benefit of legal training. Memorial University’s Copyright Office has grown from one person assigned to deal with copyright issues in 1989, to a two-person section that manages copyright for hundreds of on-campus and online courses. The session will offer some tips and suggestions for best practices in the day-to-day operations and the promotion of copyright education at Memorial, which has the longest established copyright office among Canadian postsecondary institutions.
