Abstract
These two glazed terracotta tondi of babies in swaddling are clearly workshop productions, much smaller versions of Andrea della Robbia's tondi from the façade of the Ospedale degli Innocenti in Florence. These works were also made for a foundlings' hospital, placed on the main entrance to the hospital of Santa Maria del Ponte in Lucca (now housed in the Museo Nazionale, Lucca). They also differ from those at the Innocenti in the addition of garlands of fruit and flowers. (In Brunelleschi's portico in Florence, much simpler frames are used.)
