Abstract

This statuette of St. Agnes (generally shown with a lamb, but here with a kid) was likely used for private devotion, possibly by a young girl. The figure has been rendered from terracotta partially glazed and her complexion cold painted. The original and varied colors of the much tougher glaze survive in all of their brilliance, but the flesh and hair have lost almost all of their color. The statuette could be the work of Benedetto Buglioni (cited here as the artist), or possibly that of his nephew Santi Buglioni. This work is currently housed in the Museo Bandini, Fiesole.
