St. Michael Archangel

Abstract

This sculpture of St. Michael Archangel crowns the altarpiece by Giuseppe Zimbalo in the Chapel of San Giusto in the Cathedral of Lecce. The saint is covered in gold-gild, and he strikes down at the dragon at his feet with a silver-gilded spear. The small sculpture is attributable to Zimbalo, who is also responsible for the sculptures of St. Januarius and St. Fortunatus in the same chapel.
