Abstract

This research provides a platform for four Indigenous students to share their stories and experiences whilst leaving their home First Nation communities to further their education. Utilizing narrative inquiry and Indigenous storywork approaches, the purpose of this thesis was to create a safe space for students to discuss the adjustments they were required to make; successes they experienced, as defined by them; barriers and obstacles they faced, as identified by them; support they received, as well as, sharing their ideas as to what could make the journey easier for those coming behind them. Their stories were shared through open-ended conversations, and are presented here in both story form, and in their own words. It is through the relationship built between the reader and the stories that true connection and meaning are made, allowing the spirit of the stories to create discussion and change.
